Rules Are Guardrails
Commandments are just fences boxing me in.
A guardrail on a mountain road doesn't box me in. It's what builds the confidence to drive it.
The Word of Wisdom protects a working body; honesty protects being trusted; chastity protects a family that holds. The guardrail isn't there to stop you — it's there to build the confidence to take the road at speed. Every commandment works the same way: it's not holding you back, it's building the confidence to move.
Use it when: Chafing at standards, teens questioning rules, 'why can't I' moments.
Backed by: 2 Nephi 2:27 — free "to choose liberty and eternal life" or "captivity." John 8:32 — "the truth shall make you free." Freedom is the stated outcome, not the sacrifice.
What He’d say
You are free to choose liberty or captivity — and every commandment I gave you is a guardrail, not a wall. It's not there to slow you down. It's there to build the confidence to move. Go.
(His words from the passage above, spoken to you.)
